Planning for an African Safari can be a daunting experience, as there are alot of factors to consider. In most hotels, camps, lodges, resorts and travel agencies you will notice that they will ask you to choose either Half Board, Full Board & All Inclusive stay.

But what do these terms means? what is the best accommodation option if your are on an african Safari or on a beach holiday ? If you are on a tight budget which is the best accommodation option that offers the best benefits? Below we will discuss each of these terms in detail and the difference.

1. Half Board Accommodation

Half Board accommodation basically means that the price of the reservation is inclusive of breakfast and a meal (dinner or lunch), normally it refers to dinner. Half board is an option that is usually liked by those guests who want to discover more about the destination, want to book a meal a day to try the local cuisine, visit neighboring towns or simply spend the whole day outside the hotel. This is mostly common for beach resorts and hotels.

2. Full Board Accommodation

Full board accommodation is a common offer from hotels and resorts across the world. This means that the price of the reservation is inclusive of all three meals [ breakfast, lunch, and dinner] and beverages. However, full board accommodation does not include all drinks and snacks. Therefore, you have to pay separately for alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages and snacks in the restaurant or mini-fridge. In most cases, full-board only includes the meals and the room. Extra services are charged separately. When booking full board accommodation, it’s important to ask what is included and what isn’t.
Full board accommodation is best option for all travelers going on an African Bush Safari as well as all travelers who want to enjoy the hotel/ camp/ lodge/ resort to the fullest, avoid excessive expenses during the Safari or holidays or save time choosing a restaurant to eat. Compared to All inclusive accommodation which generally costs more, full board accommodation is the budget friendly option for travelers who are on a budget.

3. All Inclusive Accommodation

All-inclusive accommodation typically includes the room, selected drinks, snacks, and hotel amenities. It’s a comprehensive package that’s great for people who wish to stay in and maximize their hotel stay during a safari or holiday. If you remain within the hotel, you can enjoy the amenities and relax inside the hotel.
With an all-inclusive holiday, you don’t have to worry about the meals, beverages, and snacks. You can wine and dine to your fill. However, some establishments limit the all-inclusive offer to midnight and only offer some selected drinks. If you plan to enjoy beverages, especially alcoholic ones, after midnight, check if the hotel has limitations or an all-inclusive offer around the clock.
In essence, all-inclusive stays are great for resorts with excellent facilities and ambiance. However, it's crucial to confirm with the establishment what's included and what's not included in this package before booking.
